10 Free Web Hosting Control Panels
Most of the web designers/developers, within time, begin to manage too many websites, build resource-consuming applications and require more than a standard web hosting package.
Then it comes to deciding a hosted/ready-to-use platform or own a VPS/dedicated server and host the websites yourself.
Both have cons and pros, the first one requires no technical knowledge but has a limited flexibility (you can’t install a custom extension onto the server, etc). For the VPS/dedicated option, exactly the vice-versa.
If you decide to go with the VPS/dedicated option and will be hosting multiple websites, then using a control panel application is a good idea.
Once installed, it will save you too much time on creating new websites, databases, e-mails, etc.
And if there will be client sites on that server, then that’s a much better decision (as you can give the control to them).
Here are 10 open source and free web hosting control panels (which are categorized with operating systems) for managing servers easier.

I have been looking for a free option recently to use on a new dedicated server running Centos and we have been trying Kloxo, which seems to have a good feature set and a beautiful interface that is as good or possibly better than cPanel. My server manager has been having serious problems though trying to get the email working because the server keeps rejecting messages. Do you have any personal recommendation from the above selection for a simple but versatile Linux based control panel that we could use? The new server has 8 gigs of ram, so a 64bit version would be nice.
Thanks

I would recommend EHCP, as it is easy to use (assuming you are using Ubuntu server or a Debian based server) and it provides more functionality then Kloxo, I had this one and I couldn’t deal with how many errors it kept popping up, EHCP was my next choice and I have loved it.

Same here, I would recommend EHCP, I tried many of the free panels, spent weeks trying them, one at the time, and had a lot of problems, either during installation, or they were hard to use or to figure out how to use. I am not and expert on Linux, but most of the time I can find my way around, and I am still using EHCP, and I like it. I have several web sites hosted on my servers, and it is easy to manage them. So far no problems.
If someone have a better alternative I am all ears!!
